Therefore, if baking a cake is on your mind then here are some first-hand icing tips and tricks which will guide you to make the most wonderful looking as well as wonderful tasting cake ever:

  • Use the best icing sugar you can afford! Because that’s where your entire process of icing the cake will depend on. Good quality icing sugar pays in the long run as its consistency remain the same throughout and you don’t have again and again alter your icing recipe;
  • Try and practice new designs by icing straight onto baking parchment – once dried you can then stick them to your cake with a dab of icing. Be careful here;
  • Don’t rush but work as quickly as you can for a consistent finish. Lock this in your mind – icing starts to dry as soon as its exposed to air;
  • If your icing is too thick, DON’T PANIC! Add a few drops of water at a time and stir in until the desired consistency is reached;
  • For a really shiny, glassy glaze, dip your spreading knife into hot water prior to spreading;
  • When topping a cake, first start from the middle of the cake spreading it outwards. By doing this you will get a even consistency;

She placed a band-aid on our wound and said that it would all be better. She would take us to the park and let us run, jump, and climb on the monkey bars. Mom would always encourage us to do our best work in school and was so happy and proud when we got good grades. Mom would play with us and teach us games we could play. She gave us advice to handle all of our problems that came up. She was always up lifting and positive with her words of encouragement. She could also be heavy handed when it came time to give us some discipline if needed. Moms are all rounder!
